HOW A MARIE KONDO FOR CHINESE NEW YEAR SAVED ME $70?

Dear readers, these days, the term Marie Kondo is the buzzword. Marie Kondo is a famous Japanese lady organising consultant and cleaning up, organizing has now its spokesman in Marie Kondo. With Chinese New Year coming soon, I have been busy spring-cleaning or Marie Kondo-ing my house. I would like to share with all of you what I have learnt during my festive Marie Kondo as well as how I save $70 in the process.

First, whenever it comes to the annual spring-cleaning, I just could not believe that even a man like me with simple material wants could amass quite a number of items over time.  Yesterday, I cleaned out quite a number of spoilt laptops used previously before. Yes, in our decade, we will be having more electronic gadgets and we must dispose of them properly through dumping them in only bins for electronic goods only. I did a wise thing by taking out the hard disk drive and RAM from the laptops before disposing them of in the electronic recycling bins which are full of gadgets, understandably so as many are doing spring-cleaning of their houses.

I don’t know about you. But my thinking is that electronic gadgets aside, all products these days seem to not be as lastly as those in the good old days. I am not sure whether the reason is for consumers to repeat their purchases?

Second, I ascribe to the practice of doing a Chinese New Year spring cleaning for the house. Spring cleaning helps us take charge of our lives by recycling, donating or disposing of the items that we no longer want or need as we welcome the good and new things for our lives. I also think that spring cleaning applies to our thoughts and habits too. We should give up bad habits and thinking and welcome more positive thoughts. This is important for wealth and material abundance too!

Third, a surprising discovery. Recently, the good and durable backpack which my intern company gave me really many many years ago has retired. I have been looking up high and low for an equally good bag. Guess what during spring cleaning yesterday? I found the same brand bag inside my storeroom. The bag is in good condition and without hesitation, I used the bag and saved me about $70 in not buying a new bag!
