Dear readers, for this Chinese New Year of the Dragon, while indulging in festive joys, I have also learned something New!
It’s about the Animal of Chinese Year 2024: Dragon!
For a long time, I already am of the view on how the Western world views Dragon, is very different from how the Orient (Eastern world) views it.
The Dragon, in the Eastern world, symbolizes Auspiciousness, Respect, Reverend, Command, Dignity, Kindness and Comradeship.
On the other hand, the Dragon, in the Western world, is like what we always see in Western movies: seems to represent more of a less than kind creature.
That is why, during this Chinese New Year period, I am glad to learn that instead of Dragon, the Chinese Dragon is increasingly known as “loong” (same per the Chinese Hanyu Pinyin) in the West, instead of “Dragon”.
It is only right as Chinese Loong is really different from the West’s Dragon, even if we are to go by the physical attributes.
In this year of the Chinese New Year Loong 2024, I wish everyone a Great Focus in All that we do and don’t be a Ba Loong Loong (“Ba Long Long”: is to always act or behave in a very relaxed and leisure manner)!
