UPDATE: Read Civil Service Year End 2022 Bonus
Dear readers, the Civil Service 2022 Mid Year Bonus is likely to be announced soon, given that this bonus is typically given every June. Around this time every year, near the announcement of 2022 Civil Service Mid Year End Bonus, I am particularly interested to know the bonus quantum since the quantum of Civil Service Mid Year Bonus 2022 is likely to be referenced by the private sector as well.
Before I proceed to give my take on the 2022 Mid Year Singapore Civil Service Bonus, let us recall what was paid for the preceding years’ Civil-Service Bonuses as below:
Year 2021:
2021 Mid Year Singapore Civil Service Bonus: a 0.3-month mid-year bonus for the Civil Service with civil servants in more junior grades receiving one-time payment of $350 or $700
2021 Year-end Singapore Civil Service Bonus: a 1.0-month year-end bonus (over and above the “13th-month bonus”) with junior grade officers receiving additional payment of $500
Year 2020:
2020 Mid Year Singapore Civil Service Bonus: no Bonus and public officers in superscale grades taking a one-time salary cut of either 0.5 or one month, with those in the higher grades taking a bigger cut.
2020 Year-End Civil Service Bonus: no year-end bonus for all civil servants though there was the usual “13th month” payment. Lower-wage civil servants received a one-time payment of $1,200.
Year 2020 was the year where Covid-19 struck Singapore afterall.
Given that a mid-year civil service bonus and a year-end civil service bonus were both given out in Year 2021 and as Singapore gradually is on track to go back to the pre-Covid normalcy, my view is that there should be a 2022 Mid Year Singapore Civil Service Bonus paid out to Singapore civil servants.
As for the quantum of the 2022 Singapore Mid Year bonus? Well, if my recollection does not fail me, the typical mid-year bonus given in normal years is 0.5 month. With Singapore’s Covid-19 re-opening and economy getting better than pre-Covid 19 level, I believe the quantum of the 2022 mid year civil service bonus to be 0.5 month. I also took reference from the 2021 year-end bonus of 1 month which was also aligned to the typical year-end bonus quantum of 1 month. My prediction of 0.5 month for 2022 mid year bonus, is notwithstanding the current high inflation and fears of recession.
More importantly, I I hope everyone in both public and private sectors have some form of mid-end bonus this year as ever since Covid-19, many of us may not have an easy time! And costs of living have been getting higher!
