WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE STOCK MARKETS THIS WEEK?

Dear readers, time really flies, we are heading into Chinese New Year and into February 2022. Let us take a look at the stock markets for the week ended 28 Jan 2022.

I think needless to say, the highlight of the week was still on the performance of the US stock markets which was getting bearish in general though there was still a strong close last Friday for all the three US stock indices: Dow Jones, S&P 500 and NASDAQ Composite up respectively by 1.65%, 2.43% and 3.13%. Given the above, I think investors have to take note that US stock markets are getting not just bearish but also more unpredictable. A case in point, NASDAQ was down by more than 4% on 24 Jan 22 at one point in the trading session of the day before closing 0.63% higher.

Amidst the current stock markets backdrop, a number of stock markets commentators, like Jeremy Grantham, have alerted on a possible stock markets corrections next. Some have even warned of a possible stock market  correction of 70% next.

On the Singapore’s stock front, one of the more noteworthy development was the trading debut of Novo Tellus stock on 27 Jan 2022 and the stock closed 2.8% lower than its IPO price on its first day of trading. I have given my views on Singapore SPACs going forward here.

Also, on the local front, it was reported that the median salary of full-time employed degree holders here in Singapore in 2021 was $7,351. I am not sure how you make sense of the aforementioned median salary: does it seem high or seem acceptable but I just know that we should not always be compare our salary with others as life is not just about working and money but life is so much more!

Speaking of work, I have been going to my workplace much more often this month, find out how I feel about working more from office here.
