Dear readers, as the year comes to a close, beside taking the time to enjoy the festivities, cooler weather and count our blessings in life, it is also time to prepare for a new year ahead.
This is especially so when Chinese New Year (which I celebrate) is just next month (January 2025).
I have started some spring cleaning at home before the unrelentless and hectic tempo of work picks up next year once again.
Each spring cleaning is akin for me for a spiritual cleansing as well. Specifically, I looked at each item that came up during the spring cleaning and decided for myself whether it should be discarded, recycled or donated. In doing these, I am affirming my values in life and also making the decision to keep things that are of value in life.
Even as an individual who does not like to buy or accumulate material items unless there is really a need to buy, items from the past do pile up after spring cleaning. And this is where I and family will stack up all the items to be donated and make a regular trip to the Salvation Army premises to donate our items and give a new lease of life for these items to people who will have a use for them.
If you have some time during this festive season, why not commence your spring cleaning to usher in the New Year or Chinese New Year? Beside a cleaner and neater environment, I can guarantee the very process of spring cleaning will serve as a catharsis. And also, with each donated item, we are also doing good for the community.
