MY FIRST INVESTMENT STOCK DISAPPEARED FROM “RADAR”!

Dear readers, in recent days, I was doing some housekeeping to my personal finance stuff.

I was caught surprised when I discovered the name of the first stock that I invested in, has disappeared from “radar”.

What “radar” was that? Well, that radar was none other than my Singapore Central Depository Portal. The name of the first stock that I have invested in, was a Singapore stock and was a well-known stock.

The stock was well-known because in its heyday, it was a good trading stock and was also in the Straits Times Index. Later on, this stock became popular all for the wrong reasons and went on to drop off from grace.

The name of the stock? Noble Group. I found out just in recent days that Noble Group was delisted from the Singapore stock exchange in mid-December 2022, guessed I was probably “drowning in work” to have noticed any mention of the delisting in the local media (don’t get me wrong, I am still “drowning in work” currently).

More than a decade ago, after I had set up my trading and CDP account, Noble Group was the first stock that I invested in after spending some time analysing the moving averages of the stock in self-made excel charts. My analysis was correct and the investment in Noble Group paid off with a humble three-digit profits.

Throughout the years, I invested in and traded Noble Group on and off and all the while back then, the stock was still relatively considered a good stock and earned profits. Just before the downfall of the Noble Group stock performance, I had a small position in it but before I could realize what was wrong with holding this stock with the changed perception and dynamic of the stock back then, it was too late and I continued to hold Noble Group stock until the company became privatised and only recently delisted from the Singapore Stock Exchange. Needless to say, I suffered some losses but luckily it was not a large sum.

Beside Noble Group stock, my own experience investing in the Singapore stock market has affirmed my thinking that the Singapore stock market does not seem as appealing to investors. Investors need to be selective in the choice of the Singapore stocks to invest and trade to be profitable.
