Dear readers, the government has announced that come 1 Jan 2022, work from home will no longer be the default work arrangement. Up to 50% of workers who could work from home will be allowed to return to office.
I have been working from home for the past two years and return to office only once a blue moon. I feel so much productive working from home. And not to mention, I save so much of my time which would have been lost in commuting, hence I also cut down on my transport cost.
There has been talk that remote working from home cannot make up for the social interaction of seeing your bosses and colleagues around. This is definitely true but beyond the social interaction, there is this inevitable office politics and this is something which I dislike very much. But while I dislike office politics very much and shun gossips and politics, this is something that even if you avoid, colleagues engaging in politics can still involve you in. However, this is life, this is work and office politics will become more for me, and perhaps for you as well when we return to office more next year.
In this new normal, the most fundamental reason for me not to go back office is definitely to minimise unnecessary exposure to Covid-19. With the emergence of Omicron in Singapore, I have thought that Work From Home should be the default work arrangement for at least the first quarter of next year just as an additional safeguard. Stay Safe, Stay Strong, Everyone!
