Cost of Living Singapore

POST NATIONAL DAY MUSING REVEALED!

Dear readers, I hope you have had a good and enjoyable National Day Holidays and long weekends! It is time to head back to work today, a day which also marks a new milestone in Singapore’s fight against Covid-19 as our country loosens up some measures towards the re-opening of our economy.

I believe you are likely to be like myself who am still continuing to work from home until 19 Aug 21 when 50% of employees who are able to work from home will be allowed to return to the workplace (similar to Phase 3 period).

Even when half a number of us are able to get back to work, it will hardly be the pre-Covid 19 period when all of us will be back to work every day of the week. The Covid-19 pandemic has long been described in terms of mental cost to individuals with the forced cutting down of social interaction at work and with friends or families. The mental cost is also associated with the uncertainties of job for some individuals.

I would think that beside mental cost, there are also physical health and financial cost arising from Covid-19 to individuals.

Individuals during this Covid-19 period may feel somehow isolated, stressed or at a loss. And these individuals tried to fill up their sense of isolation, stress or loss with food and eating. Not that the individuals are hungry and eating for their bodies (feeling hungry) but they are eating to satisfy or uplift their sense of spirit. However, food cannot compensate this lack of motivation in the individuals and the individuals end up overeating. Coupled with a lack of opportunities for outdoor sports and activities, these individuals will end up spending more monies, overeating and become more unhealthier (e.g. fatter) during this Covid-19 period. This is undesirable and will lead to even more health problems and overspending for these individuals.

I would encourage all readers to watch what you eat everyday: do you eat the food because you are hungry or are eating to fill that sense of void from loneliness, isolation or stress from the Covid-19 period?

As the world spends more time at home in this unprecedented period, I encourage all readers to take this opportunity to look more inward within ourselves and ask the more important questions of our living that we may not have opportunities to ask ourselves when we were always busy socialising with others pre Covid-19, mainly our more important goals in life that are bigger than chasing after the next promotion, the next profits, the next material things in life.

It begins with three questions:

Who Am I?

Where do I come from?

Where am I going to?

To do these, I suggest you take a regular stroll in your neighbourhood, just yourself with the neighbourhood. After a stroll, you will feel much more energised by the power of nature or just by looking at the few trees.

Also, do visit our libraries regularly. There is really a treasure trove, especially books under the Dewey Decimal classes classification of 158 and 204.

Stay Safe and Healthy and Discover more of Yourself in this current times!
