MARCH 2022 SINGAPORE SAVING BONDS: SHOULD YOU INVEST?

Dear readers, Singapore Savings Bonds was back in the limelight recently as the latest issue of the bonds (the March 2022 Singapore Savings Bonds) was projected to give a very decent annual return of 1.79% per year for the next ten years, which was higher than those of recent previous tranches. For example, the February 2022 Singapore Savings Bonds, which gave a decent 10-year annualised average return of 1.64% was decent but lower than the latest March 2022 Singapore Savings Bonds.

When I saw the return of the latest March Savings Bonds, I knew immediately that this 10-year annualised average interest was a decent one since I have been tracking the return of the savings bonds for quite some time (for example August 2019 Singapore Savings Bonds gave a decent 2.01% average annualised 10-year return) until the average returns became too low to be noteworthy.

Should you invest in the March 2022 Singapore Savings Bonds at 1.79% per annum for the next 10 years? Well, I believe if you have invested in earlier tranches of the Savings Bonds that paid lower returns, it may now be wise to take out the monies from these tranches and reinvest them in the current savings bonds for a higher yield.

And for investors who are looking for higher returns with their monies sitting in the banks, the Singapore Savings Bonds are still an attractive option since they are liquidable even if you are investing with monies meant for your investment warchest (i.e. monies to take advantages of the stock markets during periods of opportunities).
