58 BEDOK MINCED MEAT MEE STALL CLOSING: END OF SINGAPORE BEST BAK CHOR MEE?

Dear readers, I was shocked to read online that my beloved Bak Chor Mee from 58 Minced Meat Mee stall in Bedok will be closing down permanently on 30 Sep 2022.

Though I have been patronising the stall regularly, in recent times I have not been to the stall, hence it is with deep sadness that I learnt of its imminent closing from online recently.

The stall sells simply amazing Bak Chor Mee and I have paid tributes or make references to the stall several times in my blog, including the posts below.

I am not sure whether the Bak Chor Mee hawkers will pass down their skills to a generation of younger hawkers or will there be successors. If their skills are not handed down, then that may spell the end of Singapore’s Best Bak Chor Mee.

It is with deep regret that the very best and affordable hawker food that I know of and have experienced are closing down one after another. On the converse, there are more and more food stalls and outlets that sell mediocre and most of the times, unhealthy food at high prices opening up.

In the past, there were big business chains that came to the rescue of fading good local food. For example, in year 2014, Aztech paid $4 million to buy over the Kay Lee Roast Meat. And also, who can forget Breadtalk Group intervening to prevent  Teochew pastry chain, Thye Moh Chan from going into history?

Hence, I really hope or imagine that there will be some business chains who can take over the food recipe and continue the operations from 58 Minced Meat stall, else this unique and very own Singapore’s Bak Chor Mee will become gone with history soon.

Support is really key to continuing the best of Singapore’s local or hawker food. A case in point was another favorite stall of mine: Xin Mei Xiang lor mee in Old Airport Road hawker centre. I am very glad that when I returned to the stall a month back or so, the stall has a set of younger and energetic hawkers who also leveraged technology to serve customers. I was also surprised when I was in Balestier area sometime back that it has opened a dedicated store selling its lor mee and unique fare there.

But before the closing of 58 Minced Meat stall end this month, I am pretty sure I will take time to savor one last bowl of my beloved Bak Chor Mee!

That’s it for my insights today.  I Thank you once again for your support of SG STOCKS INVESTING, your Money and Lifestyle magazine! Connect with me here to follow the daily exciting and useful posts on these two blogs, Thank You for your support!
