SINGAPORE PSI: 88

Dear readers, the Singapore PSI is 88 (as at 12pm today) and the Singapore Straits Times Index (“STI”) is 3,211 (as at the close of the trading day 13 Sep 2019 yesterday).  Indeed, as Singapore experiences more and more hazy conditions, I found myself tracking not just the Singapore Straits Times Index (“STI”) daily for the purpose of my investing research but also the Pollutant Standard Index (“PSI”). Like for example, I found out that the PSI as at 12pm today is 88 (which is a lucky number but definitely not welcome on the PSI scale).

While investors note the STI almost daily for finance-related reasons, the PSI is also something to look out for, as more haze from the region flies to Singapore since the PSI has the ability to increase the expenditure of investors’ or non-investors’ finances for example:

we may need to buy facial masks to prevent the inhaling of the haze pollutant;
we may need to buy more drinks outside to keep ourselves hydrated amidst this drier weather;
we may need to visit the doctor if our health falls prey to the haze and need to pay more for the upkeep of our health
And on a more macro perspective, if the haze is to persist and deteriorate, tourist numbers to Singapore may be reduced.

Hence, a reminder to all readers to take extra care of our health in this hazy period!
