Dear readers, as a Mastercard holder, every time I perform a contactless card transaction for my purchases and inform the counter staff in front of me that I will be using Paypass to effect the transaction, it is always the case that the staff:
a) displays a puzzled look and ask what is Paypass
b) assumes and at times says it off “Okay, Paywave”
and proceed to complete the payment transaction on his or her side.
From my experiences, it seems to me that many people have learnt of Paywave which is the contactless card transaction for Visa. But not Paypass, which is the equivalent from Mastercard.
I have at one or two instances corrected the counter staff but I noted the chargin from the staff. And hence I have now since pay for my transactions and walk off.
I hope you have now understood the differences between Paypass and Paywave if you do not know these previously.
