Dear readers, Singapore stocks markets started Year 2021 well with the Straits Times Index (STI) making a double-digit percentage gain of more than 10%. Since the good performance, in recent weeks, the STI has declined, such that the STI made a slightly lower gain of 7.3% year-to-date as of 1 Oct 2021.
This is however a respectable positive gain as compared to the following overseas stocks markets which has recorded negative gains year-to-date.
Phillippines PComposite: -3%
Malaysia KLCI: -6.3%
Hong Kong HIS: -9.8%
Singapore’s year-to-date stock market performance is also better than the following stock markets.
China SH Composite: 2.7%
China SZ Composite: 2.8%
Indonesia JCI: 4.2%
Japan Nikkei: 4.8%
South Korea KOSPI: 5.1%
Year-to-date, these stock markets are the winners:
India Nifty: 25.3%
Vietnam VNINDEX: 20.9%
US S&P 500: 14.7%
Eurozone StOXX: 13.2%
Taiwan TAIEX: 12.5%
Thailand SET: 11%
US Dow Jones: 10.6%
Japan TOPIX: 10.1%
Australia S&P/ASX 200: 9.1%
UK FTSE 100: 8.9%
