Dear readers, it has come to the time when the Civil Service 2021 Mid Year Bonus is likely to be announced soon. Every time when the time comes close to the announcement of the 2021 Civil Service Mid Year Bonus, I am particularly interested as the quantum of the Civil Service Mid Year Bonus 2021 is likely to be referenced by the private sector as well.
Before I proceed on my take on the 2021 Mid Year Singapore Civil Service Bonus, let us recall what was paid last year (Year 2020):
2020 Mid Year Civil Service Bonus: no Bonus and public officers in superscale grades taking a one-time salary cut of either 0.5 or one month, with those in the higher grades taking a bigger cut.
2020 Year-End Civil Service Bonus: no year-end bonus for all civil servants though the usual “13th month” payment
Going forward to 2021 where we are still in the thick of battle against Covid-19, I think there is a growing recognition that the fight against Covid-19 is a protracted one. And a recognition that all of us must learn to live with Covid-19 if it does not go off soon. Amidst this recognition and the fact that our country has done not that bad in our fight hitherto, I am of the view that there will be some mid-year bonus for civil servants this year 2021. My prediction of the bonus is as follows:
2021 Mid Year Civil Service Bonus: 0.25 months for all civil servants and there will be no pay cuts for officers of superscale grades and higher.
I arrive at 0.25 months mid year bonus as this is between the 0.50 mid year civil service bonus that is paid as a norm usually and the no mid year bonus given to civil servants last year. Yes that is it, a simple but meaningful basis of calculation to the mid year bonus if there is any for the Civil Service this year.
More importantly, I hope everyone in both public and private sectors have some mid-year bonus this year as ever since Covid-19, many of us may not have an easy time on the work front!
