Dear readers, this afternoon, as usual, I went to fetch my kids from school. The fetching of my kids today was a bit different from the ordinary days. As I was outside the school gate, waiting for the crowd of parents to reduce first as they fetched their kids in batches, I was greeted by an individual who dressed up like a clown: with a clown’s hat etc. Together with him was another man in a more common attire. As the man who donned on the clown’s accessories approached me, armed with brochures, I immediately knew what he was up to touting education products. I did not feel comfortable to be approached by the “clown” and proceeded into the school compounds immediately.
After I have fetched my kids, we were walking on our way home, some distance from school when I heard someone call “Sir”. I turned back my back and saw the “clown” again, walking towards me. Again, I immediately replied “Sorry” and continued our way home.
To be very frank, I felt very annoying to be touted even right outside school compounds and even a distance away from the school compounds. I knew I would not buy into the products the “clown” and his friend were touting, hence I told them straight off with a “sorry” so as not to waste their time.
On the other hand, I believe they may resort to this marketing strategy as their businesses may not be good. Hence, I wish the “clown” and his friend a good business.
