Dear readers, the global stock markets including Singapore’s have declined significantly in recent months. And one main driver for the lacklustre performance of the stock markets has to do with the interest rate hikes by the US Federal Reserves.
Two weeks ago, when the US Federal Reserves announced a 75-basis point interest rate, the stock markets responded in tandem by heading south. While stock markets have subsequently regained some of the gains, the direction, in my opinion, is decidedly south.
According to an article, economists polled by Reuters have the views that the US Federal Reserves will deliver another 75 basis point interest rate hike in July, followed by a half percentage point rise in September. And hence, I believe we are looking at scenarios once again when stock markets will again become volatile.
Thus, I believe there will be again opportunities for stock markets to head further south next!
