Dear readers, ever since the easing of Covid-19 measures, I have found myself returning to office more.
Now, with inflation and costs of living all going up, naturally when it comes to having lunch outside on days when I am back in office, I turn to good and affordable meals and that means to me, the mixed vegetables rice stall in my staff canteen.
Pre-Covid-19 days and before inflation sets in, a mixed vegetable rice dish will cost me $3.50 for one meat and two vegetable dishes.
Now, with inflation, the aforementioned dish now cost me $4.10!
And if that is not all, this dish now comes with much reduced portion of meat, vegetables and rice and I am speaking not from just once-off incident but repeatedly recent patronising of the stall. Worst, even the quality of the dish is gone!
This to me is clearly not just inflation: increase of price but also shrinkflation: reduced portion, though rightfully shrinkflation means reduced portion of a good while still being priced at no change in retail price.
I feel myself getting slimer than before, wonder whether it is because I am not eating enough outside due to reduced portions of food and also shying away from food which has had their prices increased significantly?
