Bak Chor Mee

THE MATH OF 58 BAK CHOR MEE

Dear readers, I have shared with all of you on how, on a particular Saturday this month, I waited 3 hours for my Bak Chor Mee from 58 Minced Meat noodles stall. If you have missed the post, you can revisit the post here.

Well, here is a little catch up for those who have not heard of the news: the famous 58 Bak Chor Mee is closing down on 30 Sep 2022 (end of the month). And since news of the stall closing have spreaded, long queues have descended on the stall. I arrived just 10 minutes after the 0600 hrs opening time of the Bak Chor Mee stall on a particular Saturday this month and waited in all, for 3 hours when finally my order was served. I read somewhere that queues could reach 4 hours waiting time as experienced by some who visited the stall this month.

The usual queuing time before news of the stall closing spread was about 45 minutes. And when I reached the stall on that particular Saturday, the stall queue was about double in length, and hence the waiting time should be twice, about 90 minutes. Well, then how did the waiting time doubled to 180 minutes or 3 hours?

This is where a little math will help. I believe those who were in the super long queue did not just queue to buy one set of Bak Chor Mee. Most will simply double their orders and while some should still be sticking to their usual order. Averaging the aforementioned, the queue then further doubled in waiting time to 3 hours or even 4 hours as what some have experienced.

I will miss 58 Bak Chor Mee as this is simply the Best Bak Chor Mee for me.
