THE ART OF MEAL CHOICES

Dear readers, yesterday after a busy day at work, I found myself in a food court in a neighbor estate, looking for some options for my dinner.

I do not patronize food courts regularly and prefer to dine in hawker centres given the opportunity for the overall better food and prices in the hawker centres. That said, hawker centres are not as widely found as food courts.

At the said food court, to my surprise, it seems that on average, a meal costs $7! While there are meal options at $5 plus, I cannot guarantee that the portion will make me filling.

With the higher costs of living, and when meals in the normal food stalls in my neighborhood cost an average of $4, it is only expected that meal prices in food courts will be higher due to higher operating costs like rental costs.

Food choices for me are getting hard not just in terms of price but in terms of healthier choices. For $7 or less, I could get a set of western food from some fast food chain but I start to avoid too much of processed food, fries and soft drinks these days for health reasons.

And not just Western food, many of the food outside comes with oil, seasoning, sugar and salt. Thus, I will think it is an art to choose food choices which are not just friendly in price but also healthier in nature.
