Dear readers, how time flies. Year 2019 is coming to a close. How has your investments been so far for Year 2019? Do you manage to beat the Singapore stocks markets for this year?

The Straits Times Index closed 3,068.76 on 31 Dec 2018 and yesterday, the index closed at 3,172.90; hence translating to a 3.39% gain for year 2019 to-date as compared to last year (year 2018).
While the gain for the Singapore stocks markets versus year 2018 has been modest based on the performance of the Straits Times Index (with US peers gaining in the order of over 20% compared to 2018); it may not be true that all Singapore investors have beaten the Singapore stocks in terms of percentage points for Year 2019 to date. The second half of year 2019 has been rather volatile and investors who have invested at some stocks at not the most opportune times may have had their stock head south.
