SINGAPORE JANUARY 2020 SAVING BONDS RESULT IS OUT!

Dear readers, the Singapore January 2020 Savings Bonds result is already out! Of the $150,000,000 worth of Singapore Savings Bonds on offer, there was an application for $60,196,500 (40.1%) and the amount of savings bonds issued was for $58,779,500 (39.2%).

As a recap, there was an application of $43,742,000 (29.2%) of the $150,000,000 Dec 2019 Singapore Savings Bonds on offer though the total amount issued was for $42,971,500 (28.6%).

As we could see from the above, there was an increased interest among Singapore savers for the Jan 2020 Singapore Savings Bonds (40.1% application ratio) as versus that for December 2019 Singapore Savings Bonds (at just 29.2%). And the most important thing to know that this increased interest came at the back of a decreasing 10-year annualized return for the Jan 2020 bond.

I believe the increased interest for Singapore Savings Bonds right now may be due to the perception that the economy may not be doing as well for year 2020 with of media reports pointing to the fact that some industries for Singapore have slowed. Faced with macro financial uncertainties, I believe savers flock to liquidity assets with at least some form of return.
