SINGAPORE CABINET RESHUFFLE:WHO WILL BE SINGAPORE’S NEXT FINANCE MINISTER?

Dear readers, we are now into the last three days of the week where the government is expected to announce the Singapore Cabinet reshuffle. As a recap, two weeks ago, Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has announced following Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat’s stepping aside as leader of the 4G Ministers that there will be a cabinet reshuffle in the next two weeks. Hence I believe all eyes are on the new political holders, especially the Finance Minister post which Mr Heng Swee Keat has announced that he will be relinquishing and which many view as a strong post as a sign for who the next Singapore Prime Minister will be.

Many political watchers are zooming in on the four potential candidates for the next Prime Minister post: they are Chan Chun Sing, Ong Ye Kung, Lawrence Wong and Desmond Lee. If I were to give my take, I would think the next Finance Minister post is likely to be helmed by the current Second Finance Minister Lawrence Wong with Ong Ye Kung as also a strong contender for the post as he has some good background in his work with the MAS.

I would also think Chan Chun Sing may move over from Trade and Industry to helm the Defence portfolio which is also a heavy-weight portfolio. Chan Chun Sing has a good background in Defence, having started his career with the Military and rose to become the Chief of Army. Ong Ye Kung may thereafter takeover the Trade and Industry portfolio. So that in all, the three strongest contenders for the next Prime Minister post will be all given new portfolios: Chan (Defence), Wong (Finance) and Ong (Trade and Industry).

This is just my take, let us see whether my prediction will be correct!
