Dear readers, Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong will deliver the Singapore Budget 2024 next month.
I believe many will be very keen in the budget given that in these current times where costs of living are much higher, any form of assistance arising from the Budget that can go towards offsetting the cost of living will be much welcome!
And for some, they view that the Singapore General Election may be held this year and if so, Singapore Budget 2024 will become even much noteworthy being the final budget before the Election!
Similar to every previous Singapore Budget, I hope the government will announce some packages that will give Singaporeans a stake in Singapore, but not by the ownership of Singapore’s properties.
I hope the government can bring back the measure similar to the previous time where it provided Singtel shares to Singaporeans at a discount.
Why not provide an opportunity for Singaporeans to own Singapore Reits at a discount?
Singaporeans can treat the Singapore Reits that they can buy at a discount as a modality of passive income that they can hold for a long time.
Also such a move may rekindle interest in the lacklustre Singapore stocks markets.
In gist, this measure will give Singaporeans a stake in Singapore through ownership of Singapore equities.
