SIMPLYGO CARDS: SHOULD PASSENGERS BE INFORMED UPFRONT OF HOW MUCH TO PAY?

Dear readers, with the migration of all EZlink cards to SimplyGo EZ links, I read that passengers no longer will be able to know the quantum of the fare deduction at the point of exit from the fare gates.

As a user of EZlink cards for most part of my life, I have been used to tapping out from the fare gates after alighting from the trains and knowing how much I have paid for the train trip. I think this only makes sense, just like knowing how much one would have paid for an ordinary service or as simply, as for food,

With SimplyGo, one would need to log in a portal after a trip to know how much one had to pay. But this to me, is really right after the trip (i.e. the transaction) and not part of (at least at the end) of the transaction. And logging into portal to find out fare quantum, also imposes additional time for passengers as passengers have to find time to log in to the portal to simply know how much one’s trip was or whether fares have been deducted wrongly.

I also keep track of the fares displayed at fare gates simply because I would want to top up the cash balance in my EZlink card before the balance of the card runs out.

But there is nothing much I can do as the move to SimplyGo is compulsory. It will not be easier next time, after full migration to SimplyGo to find out whether my fares have been deducted correctly, and secondly when I should top up my SimplyGo EZlink card: I would have to log in to a portal to find these out.
