Dear readers, amidst the high costs of living that many of us are experiencing today, I applaud hawkers who do the following:
A: keep quality of food the same
B: keep price the same or just marginally higher
C: keep volume of food the same
For those who do not know what is shrinkflation, it is in areas of B, price the same but in areas of C, food volume become lesser.
For today’s lunch, I went to my favourite food chain (lets call it NJ for now) which sells curry rice with optipn of chicken, fish cutlets or pork.
The chicken option costs near $5 and the pork option costs slightly above $6 and takeaway is another 30 cents.
I did a takeaway today and when I opened the food boxes at home, I was very disappointed and surprised: the volume of food was significantly lesser and I was unlike previous consumption of the same meals, left still hungry after I have taken the meals. This is technically shrinkflation at work. And I must also add that the in terms of A, the taste of the meal has headed south.
I am not sure if it is the company’s policy to reduce food option to save cost or it is the employees who want to spread the food volume over a larger customer volume.
I will not patronise this food chain again or only patronise it when it is the last resort.
