Dear readers, how time flies! We are almost near the close of the first month of Year 2024!
With every year that comes and goes, always and ever so quickly, while being Grateful for what I have; as age catches up with me, I also recognise the inevitable fact that our life on earth is limited. In gist, clock is ticking with each and every passing day.
Or on a broader perspective, I always feel that our lives can be categorised into chapters, each chapter a decade. Seen in that light, I believe everyone will feel that our precious living on earth is precious and limited. Need more convincing? Be sure to read the book “4000 weeks” or google this term to find out more about this book.
To be frank, the recognition of the importance to lead our limited time on earth to the fullest sank early in me. Recognising the above fact, I always place Time far above and ahead of Money! Without Time, one cannot achieve a satisfying balance in aspects of life. Knowing the importance of time, I have altered my behaviour earlier on to make full use of time.
This means that at work, doing my best to finish as much work at work, knowing that I have other commitments after work: my family, my health, my interest and my attempts to see in what other ways I can serve community. To do this, I stayed focused in work and have zero interest in talking about other people.
As I learn from a book, there are people who like to talk about people. There are people who like to talk about events. And there are people who like to talk about ideas. I belong to the third camp. At work, I always think about how best to create the best value for my organisation and the team that I lead. At home, I do my utmost to instil in my kids values which stand the trial of time, that are even more important in this fragmented world but may have been neglected by society over time. And by myself alone, I like to spend my time in quiet contemplation to read and think about how to best serve community beside my career, to contribute to community and humanity as a whole.
And this is why, right at the start of this year, I started a journal to journal about an aspect of life.
At this point, I believe you may think that I am talking about a gratitude journal.
While a gratitude journal does wonder to one’s life (trust me I have also maintained a journal before), the journal that I have started is none other than to write down one new thing that you have done every week.
Doing the above means 52 new things done in a year and I believe it will be positively transformative. And I believe it is also pretty cool to look through the journal at the end of the year to take a look at just how much you have achieved!
So, what are you waiting for? Invest a few dollars in a nice journal today and start journaling one new thing you have done each week, starting from this week!
And I will be more than humbled if this learning from this post makes one of your first journal entries as something new that you have learned!
