Dear readers, just a few days back, I received a SMS notification from government to inform me that my NS credits in LifeSG was ready. And to access the NS credits, I would need to download the LifeSG app from the authorised sources on Apple or Google Play store.
After I have downloaded the LifeSG app and signed into the app, I saw the NS credits of $200 in the app. To use the credits, one simply just scan when making payment, the QR codes of merchants who are on the SGQR programmes: and that means many merchants since the use of SGQR code programmes has a great adoption island-wide.

I started using the credits on the same day of download given that there is a need to spend on an almost daily basic. I used the credits for my basic meals and the use is simply the same as how one goes about making his or her payment using PayNow. The only difference is that we are using the NS credits rather than our own monies.
In terms of use, LifeSG credits are much better than the CDC digital vouchers, simply because the CDC vouchers come in denomination of $5 or $10 and hence minimum spend for the use of the vouchers is at $5. With LifeSG NS credits, there is really no minimum amount and to-date, the smallest purchase I have made with my LifeSG NS credits was for a cup of Kopi in a hawker centre at $1.30.

The government has been rolling out a slew of digital vouchers to address the high cost of living and for these I am appreciative and grateful. In this current high cost of living, I believe it is still within one’s control to be more discerning when it comes to spending one’s hard-earned monies. Reduce our wants and I believe all of us can stretch our dollars even more.
Not to mention, I am of the view that we should use our LifeSG NS credits or any cost of living vouchers on our basic necessities. It is not wise to use these credits for unnecessary wants.
