Dear readers, Facebook changed its name to “Meta” on Thursday. The new name reflected the company’s growing ambitions beyond social media since “Meta” was based on the sci-fi term of “metaverse” to describe the company’s vision for working and playing in a virtual world.
When I saw and heard the word “Meta”, I immediately thought of “Metta Welfare Association” in Singapore since “Meta” sounds like “Metta” and I am rather familiar with Metta Welfare Association since this is really an organisation which supports very good causes (find out Search – Giving.sg at how we could contribute to good causes).
But do you know what “Metta” means? In Pali (a language closely related to Sanskrit), “Metta” means positive energy and kindness toward others. And that is why I like how Facebook is now called “Meta” which sounds like “Metta”. With so many users the world over using Meta, I hope for positive energy and kindness for All!
