Dear readers, I am heartened to note from the Singapore National Day Rally 2004 that there will be more HDB residential areas in waterfront areas. It is definitely one way to make HDB attractive again!
To recap, five residential and mixed-use precincts will be developed near the waterfront as follows:
Marina South and Marina East: more than 10,000 new homes to be built
Tanjong Rhu: new HDB flats will be introduced in the current area which is made up of private housing
Nicoll and Kampong Bugis areas: will also have new residential and recreational uses
Once these HDB flats are up, they will join the HDB development at Pinnacle@Duxton (which provides a commanding view of Singapore’s skyline) as part of Singapore’s most attractive HDB flats.
I envision that the design of the HDB flats in these waterfront areas to be modern, elegant and rival the designs of modern condominiums, similar to Pinnacle@Duxton.
The building of HDB flats in the prime waterfront areas is quite a shift away from the thinking that only condominiums should be built in the more prime areas of Singapore.
I will share more on my thoughts about condominiums in Singapore in my next post.
