Dear readers, I am grateful for every meal, simple or good though I always have simple food for most of the week except for weekends in general where I tend to pamper myself a little better after a week of hectic work.
But do you know that globally, 828 million people go to bed hungry every night due to acute food insecurity?
Global hunger is on the rise again due to geo-political conflicts, Covid-19, Climate change and surge in food commodities prices.
In Marasbit County, Northern Kenya, rain has not fallen in two years and all the grazing land is gone with thousands of livestock dead. Akal, a mother commented “I have to feel the pulse of my children every night as they go to bed on empty stomachs, to check if they are still alive”.
In Afghanistan, a family in desperate need sold their three-year toddler, Jamila for US$600. Jamila’s mother said “We are starving. All of us. We don’t have anything to eat and we survive by picking food from the garbage”, says Jamila’s mother.
I am grateful to have my meal and to be able to choose what to eat for each meal right here in Singapore.
With people dying and suffering from the global hunger crisis in other parts of the world, we can all do our little part to help our brothers and sisters there alleviate their suffering. Any amounts from the heart definitely count!
