JURONG EAST BUONA VISTA MRT SERVICE

Dear readers, the train service breakdown yesterday seems to be one of the longest in Singapore to-date so much so that the MRT train service between Jurong East and Buona Vista has not been restored. As announced, there will be no Jurong East Buona Vista MRT service today.

The incident does not affect me as I use the East West line. As an Engineer-trained individual myself and a former Engineer, I know first-hand that time is needed to solve faults that are not easily solved. Not only must solutions be found to rectify the fault, the solution must also ensure no recurring faults. I wish the engineers working hard now resolving the fault all the very Best. It is not constructive for some to heap criticism. All of us living in Singapore are in this together as one community.

I believe the impact of the breakdown in MRT between Jurong East and Buona Vista has quite an impact on usual train commuters. This is because Jurong East is a regional hub and a MRT interchange station. And not forgetting Buona Vista is where NUS is: there are bound to be many students using the train service.

With Singapore population reaching 6 million as announced recently, it is not easy to pinpoint a MRT station which has few footfall these days. But there are definitely stations with fewer footfall like Gardens By the Bay MRT station. If train service breakdown is to occur between more “ulu” stations, fewer commuters will be affected though it is with my sincerest thought that all nodes of our train service function seamlessly 24/7.

I have a sudden musing. Imagine if one day, trains are affected and roads are affected, it will reward one handsomely if one knows how to cycle. We just pick up our trusty bicycle, mount it and cycle to the next destination of our life!
