IS IT TIME TO ROLL BACK CONTAINER TAKE-AWAY CHARGES?

Dear readers, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Singapore, some of the food stall operators have introduced take-away charges for containers. For example, before Covid-19, when I ordered a take-away of Hor Fun from a food stall near my house, it would be just $4 including the paper box container. During the heights of the pandemic here, the same Hor Fun takeway cost me $4.30.

I understand the rationale of the takeaway charges back then during the heights of the pandemic and when many food stalls are closed for dining.

The extra container charges still persisted today when Singapore is now in the midst of transition to a new post Covid-19 normal, at least based on the stalls I patronise. More and more food stalls will also be opened for dining for larger groups. Hence, I am not sure whether it is time for the container take-away charges, introduced during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic be rolled back?

I know food businesses have been affected by the Covid-19 but I think in general, many Singaporeans are also affected by Covid-19. Hence every cent counts and will especially count in this new normal.
