Dear readers, the cost of living in Singapore has been going up, but it is encouraging that the government is helping Singapore to offset the high cost of living by providing some vouchers, though it may not be enough on a longer-term basis. The most recent increase is the cost of electricity tariff which will go up by about 8.1% in the third quarter.
Do you know that even my kids are talking about inflation? My kids told me that there is an inflation in their school canteen (yes, my kids use the term “inflation”) as the price of food items in their school canteen have gone up. And I understand that one of their school canteen stalls have closed down. And the school has put up posters to look for people interested to open new food stalls in the school. I am not sure whether it is the cost of ingredients which have gone up to make the stall’s business unsustainable.
In this time of inflation, I am not sure why some coffee shops, in Tampines and Jurong are still being sold at high prices? I am not sure whether the high prices may result in higher rentals which may mean higher prices for consumers?
