Dear readers, as shared in a previous post, for the month of May 2024 in celebration of May Day, NTUC members get to enjoy 50 cents coffee bought from participating Kopitiams. Subsequently, as a NTUC member, I had gone on to enjoy quite a few cups of 50-cents coffee already.
Recently, I bought the 50-cent coffee from a Kopitiam outlet in a shopping mall (which was not the usual stall that I patronized for the 50-cent coffee) and was surprised to be given an additional 10 cents rebate! This effectively brought the price that I paid for the coffee to just 40 cents! Initially, I thought that the store aunty made a mistake by mistaking me as a Senior. However, it was later that I understood that it was because I have brought along my own tumbler and hence was given an additional 10 cents off for being eco friendly.
This was not the first time I brought along my own tumbler for the 50-cent coffee and I have been paying 50 cents for the coffee so I decided to clarify with the stall assistant of the stall near my house that I patronized at the very next trip for the 50 cents coffee.
After my enquiry and highlighting the fact that I brought my own tumbler, the coffee stall aunty said emphatically there is only 50 cents flat price!
Given the aunty’s clarification and the fact that I only enjoyed the 10 cents discount with my tumbler from only one stall so far, I believe this 50 cents is really a standard promotional price with no further discount. And I believe the 10 cents discount would apply to coffee not bought from the 50-cents deal.
