Dear readers, in today’s post of Market Pulse, let us track the prices of our beloved coffee.
I will share the prices of coffee I recently purchased.
At Kopitiam, NTUC members used to pay $1.80 for a set of bread and toast, two half-boiled eggs and a cup of coffee. This set has now increased to $2.20. However, the cost of coffee paid with a Kopitiam card remains at 99 cents after 10% discount off the $1.10 price. I find the price of the coffee reasonable, especially as the quality of the coffee is not bad.
At a famous hawker centre in Bedok, a cup of coffee which is both good and cheap, at just $1, now costs $1.10. I really don’t mind paying for an extra 10 cents of the coffee and really don’t mind paying for even more as the coffee is simply heavenly. I salute the stall assistant who still creates values to his customers by keeping coffee prices low.
A large cup of coffee at Toast Box which cost, if I remember correctly somewhere between $2.60 to $2.80 now cost $3 and I find it a bit expensive.
Why would I find a $3 coffee expensive? Well, it is because based on my experience of going round Singapore drinking coffee, I would benchmark price of an average coffee sold at a coffee café at not more than $2.50 and a coffee at a coffeeshop at $1.40.
On days where I want to save some monies, I would brew my own coffee using the traditional way: 3 big spoons of ground coffee, added with boiling water and over a coffee sock. The coffee will then keep me awake and focused at work.
