Dear readers, the recent increase in Covid-19 cases may have some of us worrying. But as we have heard from the multi-ministerial taskforce yesterday, such numbers may be acceptable in view of us living with the virus in Singapore and on the backdrop of a high vaccination rate here.
But I am not taking any chance. I liken my personal Covid-19 protection to investing principles: it is all about risks and rewards.
Like the risks associated with stocks, there are risks right now on the Covid-19 front since Covid-19 is endemic and present in the community. What we can do now is to minimise risks like being fully vaccinated (and also going for the booster shots if offered), mask up, practise safe management and safe distancing measures etc etc. Such minimisation of risks also apply to investing where investors could choose stocks with better fundamentals to invest in.
And definitely, there are rewards associated with both minimising risks for investment and living with Covid-19. On the investment front, there is less likelihood for your capital to be lost. On the Covid-19 front, the returns of minimising risks are increased likelihood for not getting Covid-19.
As I have shared with readers before, I have not jogged outdoors unmasked for few months now ever since Singapore was placed on Phase 2 so as to minimise my risks of getting Covid-19 if the virus just happens to be where I jog! With numbers still increasing, I will continue to choose other alternative ways to stay fit. With me not having engaged in the more intense workout of jogging for months and working from home (sitting for hours and hours every day), I have gained weight. And I feel unhealthy.
I have even stopped brisk walking with mask on ever since numbers here have increased. But if Singapore is to live with the Covid-19, I think I must resume my brisk walking masked to continue to stay fit and also to stay sane since I am out of home only on basic chores as far as practicable.
I hope everyone look after yourselves, mentally, physically and spiritually in this new normal. Take some time in your life to laugh it off, find simple pleasures in life, explore new hobbies and local places, read, watch some really good TED videos. Do not take work too as the only raison d’etre where possible (e.g. overworking continuously) in this new normal where many of our houses are turned to offices!
Most importantly, always continue to be Grateful for many countries outside Singapore have it worse with Covid-19 (I hope situation here continue to be stable). Take care, folks!
