HOW HAS MY “DO ONE NEW THING EVERY WEEK” BEEN?

Dear readers, since the start of this year 2024, I have set for myself a goal to do one new thing every week.

The aim of the goal is simple: to grow as a person in the most holistic way as possible and to make the full use of our limited time on earth. A new thing every week means that I would have achieved 52 new things this year!

To be very frank, the goal is challenging! This is because like many of us, we have both work and family commitments which take up the bulk of our time. The challenge is to take what we have left of us after our work and family commitments, and no matter how tired we are, to do something new, that matters to us or that can create an impact to the community. And in gist, it boils down to me making an effort to do something new each week.

This week is week 10 of the year. As I looked at my little journal that are littered with my notes on new things every week, I see new activities that I have done, which just adds a little more dimension to my daily activities.

For examples, there were entries related to work where I proactively demonstrate more of my leadership and staff management skills.

And there were also pockets of “me time” that I managed to carve out. Like a trek at Macritchie Reservoir nature treks where I aimed to make nature treks more of a regular routine going forward.

And there were also fitness-related entries, something as simple as trying out a different jogging route for example.

And once a while, there are and will also be new activities which I have not tried or done before.

It is precisely because of the habit of keep the journal that I believe will make me to become more proactive in doing new things, starting from pushing the boundaries or just adding another layer of dimension in existing activities to ultimately doing new things altogether.

This little journal serves as a nudge to me to constantly do new things and grow more as a person! And when it comes to December once again, I will have the little notebook to refer to and be proud of the way I have spent every week.
