Dear readers, just a week ago, I shared that I have used up the bulk of my CDC vouchers.
Today, I have finished the last dollars of my CDC vouchers (for merchant shops) feeling completely satisfied!
I have been using the CDC vouchers for merchant shops on my meals, that means $5 here for my packet of bee hoon, $2 there to offset the cost of nasi lemak and with the use of these vouchers on meals from coffee shops and hawker centres, $150 can last for quite some time.
But today, I spent the final tranche of my CDC vouchers for merchant shops at close to $50 at one go!
So what did I buy? 10 packets of bee hoon as a feast for my dinner?
Well, I have spent the final $50 CDC vouchers on a food which I have not had for a long long time and it is none other than the food which you are likely to come across when you are out on the streets these days!
And this food is none other than DURIANS!
I chose two Old Tree Musang King Durians from a stall near my home. These durians were sold at $21 per kg. The durian sellers chose two Old Tree Musang King Durians, opened them up to show me the inside of the durians and after I concurred to purchase them, the durian sellers had the durians packed fresh. And I paid for the durians which cost close to $60 with around $10 in cash and the final $50 from CDC vouchers (yes the stall accepts CDC vouchers)!
I devoured the Old Tree Musang durians at home and they were yummy! With bulk of the price of the durians paid with the CDC vouchers, it seems as though that I have had free durians from the government!
I would like to highlight that technically; the CDC vouchers are meant to help Singaporeans offset the basic cost of living in this higher-cost environment and durians do not really come under the “basic needs” category but they are rather “wants”.
But having see so many people eating durians these days, my “wants” of durians have become “basic needs,” that I satisfy it finally today after a long time!
