Dear readers, every weekend, as part of my winding down after a week of busy and hectic work, I will always go to the food and hawker centre nearby for nice and affordable meals.
I will usually go for bak chor mee or minced meat fishball mee meals, those soupy types at $5!
To say that these mees are nice is an understatement. The stalls which I patronise are decade-olds stalls which have honed their culinary skills over many many years. The long daily queues at these stalls are testimony of the quality of these meals.
When I partake in these soupy mees, I feel Grateful for these mees are not only Great but these are “soul food”: food for my soul. I can literally feel that the stall owners have put in their heart and soul to their cooking. And this is why these meals feel not just Great but its food for my soul!
While prices for these mees have increased due to higher costs of living, $5 for such Great quality of food is simply very reasonable! Just compared to the many sub-quality and much more expensive meals that I have elsewhere including some restaurants and cafes!
I will often round up my meals with a great Kopi Gao in the food and hawker centres at just $1 to $1.20 per cup! Similarly, the coffee which I am getting are decades-old stalls who are fronted by very experienced stall owner and who just know how to make one of the best Kopi in Singapore for all!
I feel Grateful for my great weekly meals, at very affordable prices which are Great for the soul and fit for a King! I also feel Grateful for the fact that I am still eating these high-quality hawker food as I know over time, more and more authentic and great hawker food may be a thing of the past.
That is why I will continue to support hawkers who continue to busy themselves every day, giving their hearts and souls to feed the community!
