AGMs

DO YOU STILL GO FOR AGMS?

Dear readers, do you still go for the Annual General Meetings (AGMs) of the listed companies whose shares you bought (and hence you are a shareholder of the company)?

This current month is a month where many listed companies hold their AGMs and I am not surprised if you have received some thick envelopes containing the notices or annual reports (though these days, many companies’ hardcopy annual reports are based upon request) for the Singapore stock counters which you may have purchased.

I know many do not attend these AGMS as often these AGMs are held on weekday working hours unless the retail shareholder applies leaves to attend these AGMS.

And I also believe many retail investors know that though it is their right to attend these AGMs, they will think that despite the opportunity to air their thoughts and comments to the management of the listed companies at these AGMs, retail investors in general may think that they are only minor shareholders and would not have any real power to effect any key change that they may want to see.

It has been many years since I took time to attend one or two AGMs. At these AGMs, I saw that the buffet at end of the AGMs was a favourite of many retail investors. Some of them even jostled for the food to enjoy them at hotel settings!

I may be attending an AGM this year and I will share my experiences with you folks if I do attend, so keep a lookout for my next posts!
