NEW COVID-19 CASES IN SINGAPORE

Dear readers, new Covid-19 cases in Singapore are reported on a daily basis. The chart in relation to the reporting of the new covid-19 cases in Singapore contains the graphs pertaining to each of the following:

a) daily number of confirmed Covid-19 case since 23 Jan 20;

b) total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases since 23 Jan 20; and

c) number of discharged Covid-19 cases since 4 Feb 20

I have decided to use what is commonly used in technical analysis of investing: moving averages; to plot the 5-day and 10-day moving-average charts of the confirmed Covid-19 cases in Singapore. My objective of doing so is to endeavour to get a better sense of how the new covid-19 cases in Singapore may be developing.

Shown above are the two 5-day moving average and 10-day moving average of the new confirmed covid-19 cases in Singapore. As could be noted from the chart, the 5-day moving average peaked on 8 February and started to trend down to become lower than the 10-day moving average on 13 Feb 20. I thought from the above, this was a good sign. However, just yesterday on 14 Feb 20, the 5-day moving average starts to surpass the 10-day moving average again. This is not surprising since 9 new confirmed cases (the largest in a day for Singapore) was reported.

Eventually, a good progress for Singapore in the fight against new Covid-19 cases would be for:

a) firstly, the 5-day moving average to start trending down the 10-day moving average; and next

b) both 5-day moving and 10-day moving averages to trend down; and

c) finally the 5-day m,oving and 10-day moving average to reach a low average number of case (since 23 Jan 20) per day
