AMOY STREET FOOD CENTRE: CATCH THESE GOOD FOOD BEFORE TOO LATE!

Dear readers, I believe many Singaporeans are like myself, aficionados when it comes to food. This is inevitable since Singaporeans live in Singapore which itself is a food paradise. Recently, I was grateful to enjoy some very good food at good prices. And I thought I would like to share my experiences with you, especially before it is too late! Let me explain more as below.

While on leave one weekday recently, I decided to venture out from my house early in the morning to a place in Singapore with good food for breakfast. Having worked from home since 2020 and kept very busy at work, I have clocked in a respectable number of leaves to clear. And when it comes to leave, do you think I would still continue to stay at home after staying at home day after day for most part of the week, working from home for the past year or so? Of course not! If I continue to stay at home on my leaves, it will no longer be like a leave. Instead, I decided to break my routine and go out from my house early in the morning when I am on leaves!

Of course, there are really limited options for spending time outside in the mornings. Many of the places including shopping centres are closed in the mornings. There is however, one option though, good morning breakfast! Hence, on days I clear my leaves, I will hunt down places with good food, at good prices for good breakfasts.

My recent hunt for good food brought me to Amoy Street Food Centre. I came to this food centre really very few times in a year (say at most 1 to 2 times). Having tried some of the stalls before, I decided to try the food from some other stalls which I have not patronised before.

I ordered a soup-based Wanton mee from Wah Kee Noodle stall at $4.50 at level 2 of the food centre. I was shocked when the Cantonese-style mee arrived, the portion was very generous, with lots of Char Siew and wantons! And the taste is simply so Heavenly! The dish reminded me of some of the very delicious wanton mee my wife and I had in Hong Kong! I would rate Wah Kee Noodle stall one of the very Best wanton mee stalls in Singapore. I found a blog post which mentioned about Wah Kee Noodle stall.

Next up, I ordered a butter kaya toast and coffee from Ah Seng (Hai Nam) Coffee stall, also at level 2 of the food centre. The kaya toast was prepared over charcoal grilled and when I took in the toast, the toast tasted very smooth! Smoother than the toast which I have taken from some other kaya toast coffeeshop chains. The coffee, though not as strong as the one I usually have, has a very defining taste which has elements of butter. This must be the trademark of Hainan coffee, I thought! You can read more about the all here on this Michelin guide.

If you are interested to try the food from the above stalls or any other stalls in Amoy Street, you may want to head down there in the next two weeks as Amoy Street food centre will close from 11 October 2021 to 10 January 2022 for renovation. Remember to adhere to all Safe Management Measurements guidelines though!
