AH QING TRADITIONAL LOR MEE

Yummy Lor Mee!

Dear readers, recently I was at Chinatown complex food centre and was deciding just what meal I should settle on among the hundreds of stall there, when I finally chanced upon a Lor Mee stall: Ah Qing Traditional Lor Mee.

Tasting a bowl of lor mee is an experience that tantalizes the senses and evokes a deep appreciation for the rich culinary traditions of Singapore. As I approached the steaming bowl placed before me, the aromatic scents wafted through the air, drawing me in like a siren’s call. The first thing I notice was the deep, glossy broth, its dark hue hinting at the complex flavors that await.

As I lifted my chopsticks, the smooth, slippery noodles glide effortlessly, each strand coated in the luscious gravy that envelops them. The texture was delightful—soft yet chewy, perfectly balanced for that satisfying bite. I took my first spoonful, and the flavors bursted forth with an earthy depth. The blend of soy sauce, spices, and perhaps a hint of fermented bean paste created a savory symphony on my palate.

Scattered generously throughout the bowl are an array of ingredients that elevated the dish. Tender slices of braised pork belly provide a richness that complemented the noodles beautifully. The addition of fried shallots added a delightful crunch, while the fish shreds contributed a subtle sweetness. Each ingredient plays a vital role, creating a harmonious balance that showcases the dish’s complexity.

Diving deeper into the bowl, I uncovered a comforting layer of leafy greens—that added a refreshing contrast to the rich broth. I could not resist a splash of vinegar, which brightened the flavors, cutting through the richness, and awakening my taste buds.

With each mouthful, I found myself lost in the intricate tapestry of flavors and textures. Lor mee is not just a dish; it’s a celebration of comfort, tradition, and the sheer joy of food that warms the soul. As I savor the last spoonful, I realize that this culinary journey has left an indelible mark on my heart.

I paid $5 for a large bowl of fulfilling and very nice Lor Mee. And I rate Ah Qing Traditional Lor Mee as one of the Best in Singapore!
