$500 CDC VOUCHERS: HOW I HAVE USED THEM?

Dear readers, the government has given each Singapore household $500 CDC vouchers with effect from 3 Jan 2024.

This $500 tranche of CDC vouchers comprise:

  1. $250 CDC vouchers for use at supermarkets; and
  2. $250 CDC vouchers for groceries and meal-related purchases

As at this time in writing, I have almost used up all the CDC vouchers and should be using up the small remaining amount today for meals.

How have I used the CDC vouchers?

Well, I have used the vouchers for the supermarkets at a faster rate, especially when my Chinese New Year festive grocery shopping at a supermarket exceeded more than $200. I easily used up some $100 plus of the CDC vouchers in that grocery trip alone.

For the CDC tranche for groceries and meal-related purchases, the usage was on a lower tempo than the use for the supermarket tranches. Reason being not all grocery or food stalls accepted CDC vouchers. Hence, usage of the CDC vouchers for groceries and meals was on a per transaction basis and also based on the fact that the stall I patronised accepts the use of the CDC vouchers.

However despite the aforementioned, there was a Bak Kwa store which I patronised for my purchase of Bak Kwa for the Chinese New Year period and where I used up easily some $100 CDC vouchers alone for the Bak Kwa purchase!

Those who have been following SG Stocks Investing would have known that I track my daily expenditures rigorously. Without the $500 CDC vouchers, the expenditure reflected in my expenditure tracking worksheet would have been plus $500 more! As such, I am grateful for the savings.

I am looking forward to the next $600 tranches of CDC vouchers which would be rolled out as announced during Singapore Budget 2024. The first $300 tranche would be given out in Jun 24 and the second tranche would be given out in Jan 25.

I am grateful for the CDC vouchers as they help to offset the higher cost of living that many of us are experiencing now. It is good that the CDC vouchers are designed such that many of the shops accepting these vouchers are serving our basic necessities rather than wants (e.g. luxury goods) as this is precisely the intent of these CDC vouchers: to help Singaporeans with the higher cost of basic necessities these days.

Enough said, I am going to my favorite hawker centre now and use up the remaining CDC vouchers that I have now.
