2019 YEAR-END BONUS: HOW TO MAKE BEST USE OF IT?

Dear readers, it is December once again and as the cliché goes: “How time flies”. Whenever it comes to December, many working executives will start to take stock what they have achieved for the year and at the same time, count the year-end bonuses which they will be getting. Just last week, the Civil Service announced to the effect that beside the 13th   -month bonus, most of the public servants will get a 0.1- month bonus. Translating the 0.1 -month bonuses: this equates to just an additional of three working days of bonuses over and above the 13th month bonus.

In effecting the quantum of the year-end bonus, the government has cited restraint on its part in relation to the bonuses in view of the prevailing economical outlook. I believe most of the private sector will draw reference from the public sector and pay lower year-end bonuses for year 2019.

The above said; 2019 year-end bonuses are likely to be lower for many of us and hence seen in this light are going to be very precious. And that is why I believe all of us should make the best use of this year-end bonus.

Indeed, I could echo that the macro economical outlook may not be the most positive one right now. And I will think that the best use of our 2019 Year-end bonus is actually a very simple one. Which is to save the Year-end bonus into one’s savings accounts. For those who are like me building a “war chest” to invest when the stock markets next correct, the year-end bonus could help in building up this war chest a little.

Have an enjoyable festive season ahead!
