200,000 SENIORS NOT VACCINATED YET. SHOULD WE CONSIDER CASH INCENTIVES?

Dear readers, as reported, there are about 200,000 Seniors above 60 years who have not been vaccinated yet.

The above statistics are truly a concern since it is reported that seniors who are not vaccinated have higher risks of developing health complications if they contract Covid-19.

The government has facilitated the vaccinations for seniors through measures like introducing walks-in (without appointments) for seniors to get their shots.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has also appeared on video to encourage seniors to take up the jabs.

I was thinking if all the measures to encourage seniors to go for their jabs are not effective, should government consider cash incentives for seniors above 60 years old to go for their jabs? And for parity, seniors above 60 years of age who have undergone full vaccination should also likewise get the cash incentives.

The cash incentives could be in the form of a $50 cash or contribution to the CPF of the Seniors. This cash incentive initiative would cost the government minimally, 200,000 x $50 = $10 million at the minimum to cover the 200,000 seniors who have not gotten their jabs. This incentive would definitely cost more to cover those seniors who have already received their jabs.

Cash incentive, definitely a last resort. But if this incentive can encourage seniors to take their jabs and be protected, I believe this can be a consideration by the government.
